Introduction:
“Who am I? Why am I here?” The way I understand the answers to these questions is the result of over 50 years of searching, asking, learning, and countless spiritual experiences and visitations. What I’m about to share aligns with thousands of Near Death Experiences and represents the essence of what I’ve been shown.
The Nature of Consciousness:
First and foremost, you need to understand that you are not this body. I do a much better job explaining this in my course, Why am I Here? but I will do my best to explain it here. You are the consciousness inside the body. Crucially, you are NOT the voice in your head. You are the consciousness that is aware that there is a voice in your head. Without this basic foundation, you will be led like a puppet by your thoughts. The voice in your head, for those who can understand this, IS the matrix. Your purpose here is to wake up from this matrix, to discover who you really are: Consciousness itself.
The Oneness of Consciousness:
The consciousness looking through my eyes is the same consciousness looking through yours. As spiritual beings, we chose to come to Earth to awaken to our unlimited nature. We did this by forgetting who we are – pure consciousness. This forgetting is often called “the veil” in various religious traditions.
The Gift of Limitation:
Why would we choose to forget? Why would we choose to be veiled? I once heard it said that the greatest gift you can give an unlimited, perfect being is the illusion of limitation. This allows them to rediscover their true nature. At first, I didn’t fully align with this teaching, but as I began to experience it, its truth became clear.
The Round Table Analogy:
Imagine a round table in the spiritual realm. Here, we gather with our soul family as beings of light, free from earthly bodies and the constant chatter of thoughts. It’s challenging for the earthly mind to grasp, but try to envision being fully conscious of your surroundings without a brain or thoughts.
In this realm, at this table, we plan our earthly experiences with our soul family. It’s like choosing characters for a video game, deciding on the conditions and limitations we want to experience. We discuss who will play various roles – the villain, the mother, the best friend – to support each other in the “game” we’re about to play. This represents one lifetime, and we’ve had hundreds.
Remember, just as you’ve played many different characters in video games, YOU are not those characters. YOU were the one playing the character. When the character in the game dies, YOU don’t die. There is ZERO identification with the character.
The Importance of Experience:
We learn from experience. Only the brain learns through knowledge. Remember, we are not the brain. The brain stays with the body when the real you leaves it. Knowledge alone is useless in our expansion as a spirit. You can learn all day long what lemonade tastes like, but until you experience it, it’s useless knowledge. This is why we choose to incarnate and experience life on Earth.
The Astronaut Suit Metaphor:
Think of your physical body as an astronaut’s suit. You are IN the suit, but you are not the suit itself. If an astronaut looks in the mirror and says, “I’m fat. I have a bubble head,” he’s mistakenly identifying with the suit. He is only in the suit to experience life on another planet. Similarly, we are only in these body-suits to experience life on Earth – to taste the metaphorical lemonade of various human experiences.
We’re here to experience the different energies of love, hate, pain, excitement, betrayal, success, and more. These experiences aren’t possible in “heaven” where everything and everyone is perfect. Who can be mean to you in heaven? Who can betray you? How can you have “success” in a realm of perfection? We need to limit ourselves and veil our true nature to have these full experiences.
The Illusion of Time:
Time makes our earthly experiences feel intensely real. But in the spirit realm, it’s but a vapor. When we awaken spiritually, we realize this lifetime was just a game we were playing, much like those video games from childhood that felt all-consuming in the moment.
I know this perspective might offend some, but remember: you chose to play this game. You chose the limitations. You chose the suit. There’s no one to blame other than working with yourself to get the experiences and lessons you chose.
Practical Applications:
Understanding this perspective can transform how we approach life’s challenges. Instead of blaming others, we can recognize that we chose our experiences for our growth. We can forgive the other characters and work with ourselves to wake up and “win” at this game called Life.
What if we quit blaming everyone else? What if we’ve been identifying as a character in a game that isn’t really us? What if we forgave the other “characters” who are playing roles we agreed upon? We can easily forgive them and learn what we need to learn, waking up to who we really are.
Conclusion:
As you go about your day, consider: What if you’re not the character in the game, but the player? How might this realization change your attitude towards your experiences? Remember, awakening to your true self – consciousness itself – is the ultimate purpose of this earthly journey. If you want a more in depth explanation consider taking my course Why Am I Here?
