The Conscious Choice: Beyond Fear

Introduction

Since my awakening experience, I’ve embarked on a profound journey of self-discovery, learning how to actively follow my highest excitement in every moment of my life. While articulating this process may be complex and sometimes challenging to grasp intellectually, I’ve discovered that it’s often more effective to bypass the need for complete understanding and to simply engage with the steps involved. I was first introduced to this concept by Bashar in his “kit of excitement” and have further developed it through my teacher RJ Spina

Being Present

One of the fundamental truths I’ve realized is that the mind lives in either the past or the future. It’s our consciousness that is fully present in the here and now. It is absolutely critical that you understand this when making decisions, to ensure you don’t repeat the same toxic patterns in your life. The mind can not be present, it either ruminates over past experiences or worries about future events. A key realization was understanding that as long as I am thinking, I am not present. This idea took time to fully grasp, but once I did, I became much more aware of not making a decision from the “fear based mind” and only making decisions “in the moment” while fully conscious.

Meditation

Meditation has become a vital practice in my journey. Meditation is the silence in between thoughts. During meditation, I have the opportunity to either listen to my thoughts or be present— being “out of my mind” and fully immersed in the moment is the goal. When sitting in silence, it’s relatively easy to distinguish between thoughts and presence. However, in the midst of daily life, recognizing which one we’re engaging with while making decisions is a skill that requires continuous refinement. This awareness becomes crucial as we navigate the complexities of our day-to-day experiences, striving to make choices from a place of presence rather than the fear based mind.

Importance of Being Present in Decision-Making

Every decision must be made consciously, in the present moment. Trust your gut rather than the mind. To make the best decision in every moment, we must remain fully present; we cannot allow the fear-driven mind to influence our choices. The ego mind is only able to make decisions rooted in fear, based on past experiences or anxiety about future challenges. Making decisions from the mind will guarantee you repeat the same fear based patterns.

Breaking the Cycle

To truly break free from this cycle, we must engage in a practice of conscious choice-making in every moment, almost as if we are making decisions without a brain. Yes, I know that sounds absurd, but hear me out please! In each and every moment we have an array of choices, and the key is to select the option that contains the highest excitement. Choose the one that just feels right even if it doesn’t make sense. By doing so, we invite a world of endless possibilities to unfold before us.

Scenario for Understanding

Allow me to illustrate this concept with a simple scenario. In this very moment, what do I genuinely wish to do? My heart yearns for a refreshing walk outdoors, yet my mind interrupts with thoughts about responsibility and productivity, warning that I must not waste time being idle. So, in this moment I am presented with two options; go for a walk or be productive. If I concede to my mind’s narrative, I limit myself to a path defined by fear and past experiences.

Choosing the Path of Passion

Conversely, if I choose to honor my desire for a walk despite my mind’s objections, I step into the realm of unlimited possibilities. This decision might seem illogical at first, creating inner turmoil, but in this space, I must remain aware and intentional about my choice. By choosing to go with my gut rather than the mind, it opens doors to unlimited and unexpected opportunities—ones I could never anticipate or plan through logic alone. Conversely, by allowing fear-based thinking to guide my choices it limits me and confines me to familiar, often toxic patterns.

Conclusion

In retrospect, my mind might claim that I squandered time on a walk that should have been devoted to work. However, what it fails to comprehend is that in that seemingly trivial choice, while on my walk, I might meet someone who plays a pivotal role in my life’s narrative — perhaps the person who will help publish the book I’ve always dreamed of writing. This serendipitous encounter could be the catalyst for a series of events that transform my creative aspirations into reality, opening doors I never knew existed.

When I choose in the moment to go with the option that sparks the highest excitement, I am surrendering to a higher guidance that the mind cannot orchestrate on its own. This intuitive decision-making taps into a wellspring of wisdom beyond conscious reasoning, aligning me with opportunities that resonate with my true purpose. It’s as if the universe conspires to support my journey when I trust my inner compass in every moment.

The mind, in its limited capacity, operates from a place of fear and linear thinking; it cannot fathom the magic of such spontaneous encounters. It seeks to control and predict, often steering us away from the very experiences that could lead to our greatest growth and fulfillment. This fear-based approach keeps us tethered to the familiar, even when the familiar no longer serves our highest good.

When I allow the mind to dictate my decisions, I remain trapped in a cycle of fear, repeating toxic patterns. This self-imposed limitation closes off avenues for meaningful connections and life-changing opportunities. It’s a form of self-sabotage that keeps us locked in a familiar zone that, paradoxically, becomes increasingly uncomfortable over time.

Ultimately, the choice between following your excitement in every moment or succumbing to fear is a decision between expansion and contraction, between embracing the unknown with enthusiasm or retreating into the illusory safety of the familiar. By consistently choosing passion, we invite magic into our lives, co-creating a reality that surpasses our wildest dreams and aligns with our deepest truths.

It’s crucial to remember: the mind cannot remain present. Decisions driven by fear are its default mode. If we seek to inhabit a life brimming with adventure and limitless potential, we must consciously choose in the present, transcending the limitations of fear.
